For previous design, it is easy to confirm the layout but difficult to deal with details, I was often not sure for column width, center of layout, page margins, font size, kerning and line spacing. Why should we set this length? Is there any relationship between them? Finally, all the things are being done with personal feeling. Therefore, I went to research the flow of formal layout carefully and tried to search the internal links between all the elements of the layout, now I succeed after one week.

Learned from three books(The Complete Manual of Typography / Typographic Grid / Books design), I have found a set of fine tuning method of layout which can convince myself. These seven big posters systematically recorded the layout design system which indicated the internal relationship between elements. What’s important, the size and space of all the columns, paragraphs and character become rational. Proportional relationship is existed between them.

The first three posters introduced the method to confirm the center of layout, and clarify the relationship between the center of layout and page. The forth and fifth posters explained how to decide the layout grid according to the layout center and page and further confirm the column width and spacing.

The sixth poster instructed the scale, distance, line width and spacing between the fonts in different layout hierarchical.

The last one introduced how to unit all details comprehensively to confirm the final construction of overall and detailed layout. As I have simplified the content, the rest are important relational tables, their logical relations maybe a little incoherent, but I know how to use it definitely.

This is a practical design, so the manifestation is mainly focused on accuracy. Geometric dimensions are required accordingly, so the size of each poster is different, such as, the column width is equal to the size of actual print, while the font size and word spacing is small. In this case, the practical layout problems can be solved. Additionally, special matte old printing paper was used for output, which can make it distinct visibly from the white paper. An elegant layout must base on the above knowledge and data, and there is a complete set of data logic behind each information hierarchical system.

以往做设计大的版式可以确定但细节很难处理,每次一到定栏宽、版心、页边距、字号、字距、行距这些细节时心里总是没底,为什么要定这个长度,他们之间有没有关系。最后就是完全靠感觉走,所以决定花一个星期的时间仔细研究一下正规的版式设计流程,寻找一个板式内所有元素之间存在的内在联系,这几天终于把他们整理出来了。

通过三本书(The Complete Manual of Typography / Typographic Grid / Books design)的结合式学习研究终于找到一套能说服自己的板式微调方法。这七张大海报很系统的记录了元素之间具有内在关系的板式设计体系。这几张所解决的问题是可以让版面上所有出现的栏、段落、字符的大小间距都有理可依。而且他们之间是存在着内在的比例关系。

一到三张介绍确定版心的方法。详细的说明了版心和页面之间的比例位置关系。四、五张介绍了怎样根据版心和页面确定版面网格,进而确定栏宽、栏间距。第六张详细说明不同板面层级当中的字号之间的比例、字距、行宽、行间距。

最后一张说明怎样把综合的把所有细节都统一起来确定最后版面的整体和细节构成。因为里面的内容都是经过我的极度精简后剩下的最重要的关系表格思维逻辑可能有些跳跃。不过我自己是肯定知道怎么用的。

设计的表现形式以准确度为主,这是一项实用的设计。需要等比的尺寸。所以每长海报的尺寸是不一样的,比如栏宽的尺寸比较大,是与现实中的印刷品是一比一的关系,字号与字间距那张就比较小。这样才可以让他去解决现实中的板式问题。采用了一种特殊的哑光旧印纸输出,这样可以与书籍打样出来的白色纸张区分明显一些。一个讲究的板式需要以上这些知识与数据为基础,在确立每个信息层级系统的背后都有一套完整的数据逻辑。
