This is a conceptual design for clock application interface. The whole interface breaks through the traditional structure of time display, and the display of time is integrated into a freehand sketched office scene, so that the way of reading the time and the process of setting the clock will be more interesting.
In real life, we often write it down on the paper to remind us of something, so the interactive mode I design is to record time by means of writing. In this way, it will not only help the user input conveniently and fast, but also make him highly concentrate his mind when inputting, so as to lower the rate of mistake making.
Regarding the entire visual design, I select the style of freehand painting as the way of display. The combination of paper-like blue signing pen and silver gray background brings people the experience of high-end modern life, which well accords with iOS’s overall style of hardware products and generates recessive relationship between the interface and hardware.
A clock generally reminds a person of the beginning of a day and he should be provided with more related information in this day. For example, a timely weather forecast will help you easily avoid the precipitate rainstorm and a warm memo will prevent you from forgetting the party arrangement this evening.
I hope that I will conduct more ground-breaking or overturning experiments, to break through some user habits and experiences which are not good enough at least in my mind. I believe that people will need more unprecedented experiences in the future, for they will be never satisfied with anything they have possessed. A real good product will touch the user’s emotion when he uses it and then leaves some memories.
The whole design concept is to create a scene where the designer draws on the paper with a marker pen. The biggest figure indicates hour and the fully-painted space indicates minute. As time passes by, the image indicating hour is gradually be filled in by the color, as if a designer is constantly completing his work.
In this way, the image is different in every second and every minute, i.e. it brings the user a novel and funny experience that can restore the nature of life with the interesting form and visual impression of the interface. In this application, the organization and relation between information is researched. Their sequence is determined according to the relation between hour hand and minute hand. It also studies that what pace of information appearance will make the user feel smooth. What the user sees for the first sight is the big unfinished hour and then he clearly sees minute where he has fully painted.
The clock and alarm clock are divided into two parts, which are distinguished by differentiated saturation. To set the clock, the user should drag it up or down for minute and slide it left or right for hour. The way of setting the clock follows Apple’s built-in interaction, i.e. tab switchover replaces the traditional upper and lower subfield, thus reducing the cost of switchover page.
